Frequently Asked Questions
What are herbal supplements?
Herbal supplements harness plants and botanical extracts with generations - sometimes millennia - of traditional use, from Ayurvedic ashwagandha to European favourites like milk thistle and sage. Our herbal and botanical range uses standardised extracts wherever possible, so the active compounds are guaranteed rather than left to chance.
What are herbal supplements good for?
Different herbs, different jobs. Turmeric supports joint, bone and immune health; Ginkgo Biloba is a traditional circulation aid; milk thistle relieves the symptoms of overindulgence; sage may help with menopausal hot flushes; and garlic contributes to normal immune function and cholesterol maintenance. It's less one category than a toolbox.
Which herbal supplement is right for me?
Start with your goal. For joints, Turmeric 12,500mg with BioPerine® is the standout choice. For stress and wind-down, KSM-66® Ashwagandha leads our stress range. Circulation? Ginkgo Biloba 6000mg. The morning after overindulging, milk thistle is the traditional fix; for menopausal symptoms, Sage 3000mg; and for men's health from midlife, Saw Palmetto with zinc and selenium.
What does 'standardised extract' mean and why does it matter?
It means the extract is processed to guarantee a consistent level of the active compounds - our Ginkgo is rich in flavone glycosides, our Korean Ginseng guarantees high ginsenoside levels, our Sage guarantees 12.5mg of rosmarinic acid, and our Turmeric a full 475mg of curcuminoids. Without standardisation, herbal potency is a lottery; with it, every tablet delivers what the label promises.
Are herbal supplements safe to take with medication?
This deserves a straight answer: not always. Herbs are biologically active - that's the point - and some interact with prescription medicines: ginkgo with blood thinners, for example, and several herbs aren't advised in pregnancy or with hormone-sensitive conditions. None of this makes them unsafe in general; it makes checking sensible. If you take regular medication, a quick word with your pharmacist before starting any herb is always time well spent.
What is milk thistle good for?
Milk thistle is a traditional herbal medicine used to relieve the symptoms of overindulgence - the heavy, sluggish aftermath of too much rich food or drink - which has made it a fixture of festive seasons for generations. Ours is a premium-grade extract at guaranteed strength and quality, in small, easy-to-swallow tablets. It sits alongside peppermint oil and friendly bacteria in our wider digestive range.
Is turmeric better with black pepper?
Meaningfully so - curcumin, turmeric's active compound, is famously poorly absorbed on its own, and black pepper extract (piperine) significantly improves its uptake. That's why our Turmeric 12,500mg includes BioPerine®, the branded black pepper extract, alongside a guaranteed 475mg of curcuminoids from genuine Indian turmeric grown in Sangli. A turmeric supplement without pepper is leaving most of its potential on the table.
Do herbal supplements actually work?
An honest answer: it varies by herb, and the evidence is stronger for some than others. What we can say is that traditional use across generations counts for something, several of our herbs carry registered traditional uses (like milk thistle for overindulgence), and standardised extracts ensure you're at least getting a consistent, meaningful dose. What we won't do is promise miracles - herbs support wellbeing; they don't perform magic.
Are herbal supplements suitable for vegetarians and vegans?
Mostly yes, and often by nature - plants, after all. Our Korean Ginseng, KSM-66® Ashwagandha, Sea Kelp and vegan-source charcoal are all explicitly vegan-friendly, and many others use vegetarian capsules. Each product page states suitability clearly, and you can filter our vegan and vegetarian ranges to see everything at a glance.
