BONE HEALTH

Bones like any other part of the body are continually being rebuilt. So it makes sense to feed them with the nutrients needed to keep them strong and healthy.  Ideally diet should give us all the bone-food we need, but some nutritionists believe - when it comes to bone health - many people are falling short. Alcohol, coffee, fizzy drinks, cigarettes, lack of exercise and extreme dieting all prevent minerals from being absorbed into bone. They may even leech Calcium and Magnesium out, increasing the risk of fractures in later life.

That's where supplements and lifestyle can play an important role. Key minerals for bone strength are calcium and magnesium; try our Calcium & Magnesium or our Calcium Citrate. Vitamin D is also vital for bone health. This vitamin, made in the skin on exposure to sunlight, is needed for calcium to be fixed into bones. Meanwhile, vitamin A, which helps regulate and replace bone cells, is needed for 'bone maintenance.' You can find both of these Vitamins in all any of our range of MultiVitamin products.

A good overall bone-health supplement combination would be our combined Calcium & Magnesium product along with Cod Liver Oil which contains Vitamins A and D. Alternatively try our all-in-one Calcium plus A & D supplement.

So what’s the best advice? Cut down on bone weakening habits, eat good nutritious food and consider taking a supplement. Then take plenty of weight-bearing exercise such as tennis, yoga or even walking. That will help channel more minerals into your bones. And don’t forget to top up on Vitamin D levels the fun way, by enjoying as much time as you can in the sun!
